AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER

Speech Therapy:: Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy facilitates increased functional independence of individuals with various disabilities – physical, cognitive and sensory deficits.  Occupational therapy utilizes therapeutic exercises, neuromuscular re-education, motor skill development, and sensory integration techniques to enable individuals to become as independent as possible.  With self-help and leisure activities OT helps develop a positive sense of self.

Speech therapy increases communication abilities by augmentative devices, pictures, or signs, or spoken language in order to allow the maximum interaction between children and others in their daily environments.  By addressing language and auditory processing deficits, comprehension of events in the child’s life may be increased, thereby enhancing their quality of life.  The ability to communicate wants, needs, and ideas effectively to those around us not only reduces frustration and behaviors, it is the ultimate interactive goal.

Behavioral Therapy::
NECCO Center utilizes a behavior therapy program based on the recommendations of an interdisciplinary team composed of the referring agency; PT, OT, ST, Therapist, and family.  Contributions from the team are submitted either in person or in writing.

Assisted Daily Living Skills::
Domestic daily living skills are addressed in a realistic setting and are generalized to a community setting in a systematic and graduated process.  Skills such as cooking, shopping, laundry and personal hygiene are addressed per the individualized education plan.  NECCO Center employs a full time ADL Coordinator.
